Stop. Regroup. Move on!

Dear Girls,

When you look back on it, it sucks that you gave that person more then they could ever give you. Maybe its the eternal optimism, or the fact that I thought I could fix you. That’s a thing you know, fixing people syndrome. I thought the more I gave, the more I cared, the more I loved, that you would start to do the same, feel the same, give the same.  And sadly, that's not always how it works out, you can give someone your entire heart and get nothing in return. Life’s a bitch, huh?

The worst part of ending things is all the feelings attached to it, the way I’ll never be able to look at some things the same. When things end, that person takes a piece of you with them, regardless if they “loved” you or not, and they will always have that piece. You decided to share a part of your life with them, and they did the same. They opened up to you, told you things they didn’t tell anyone else, and that's not things you can forget, ignore and let go. No matter if you delete the pictures together, the relationship status on social media,  you can’t delete what you had, the feelings you held.

Dear Girls,

As you guys are aware, Valentine's Day is creeping up on us and obviously those of us in love are scrambling to get gifts for our partners. That's our first thought whenever an occasion as such arises. Now don't get me wrong but there was a time when we were free… or free-er. When people weren’t products, and to enjoy them, you didn’t need your wallet. When the first thought that came to mind to show someone how great and how deep and how true your love goes, was not “What should I get them?” but rather “What will I give them?”
I was researching ways to show someone you love them without spending money and I found this article by Andrea Balt. Read up and don't buy love, give love!

5 Ways to Say I Love You Without Money.

There was a time when love and money hadn’t met.

There was a time when we were free… or free-er. When people weren’t products, and to enjoy them, you didn’t need your wallet. When the first thought that came to mind to show someone how great and how deep and how true your love goes, was not “What should I get them?” but rather “What will I give them?”

Let’s understand the difference:

GETTING something for someone, implies acquiring an object or experience you don’t own, for which you must exchange an established currency (a.k.a. meaningless paper), which you have obtained in a previous exchange, for your time and effort, which you then pass on to the person you love as a physical symbol of that love. It begins with YOU (you are time) it goes through IT (the work you do with your time), then another IT (the money you get for the work), and yet another IT (the object you get for the money) and finally lands in your loved one’s hands. That’s a lot of intermediaries…

GIVING something from what you already have (that is, what you are) implies that the gift is a part of you, and that you will give away that piece of you for no reason, no need, no utility or purpose other than… just because. It’s not necessary, not required, not a must, should, would, could. Like the ultimate essence and point of love — is just IS.

But what if it does?
In a world where living without money is almost inconceivable, and where our DNA has already mutated to include a money gene, most of us haven’t really learned (or been taught) the true meaning of giving, and even harder, the art of receiving.
And despite all my (always urgent) needs and crises, worries, stress and gratitude for THINGS, it’s this type of love, the one that transcends THINGS — I’d like to get more of, learn more about, and give more often.

To expand our humanity further into the Being rather than Having, here are five free and totally unnecessary, non-useful, non-efficient, unexpected and 100% human ways to say: I fucking love you! — to the person or people you can’t live without.

1. Turn them into art.

Write a song, a story, a poem — even an article — about or inspired by them. If you can draw or paint, draw them, paint them. Give them a place in your art. Turn them into your Muse. This is one of the highest honors you can give to the person you love. If this person also practices some kind of art, he / she will value this gesture more than anything you can possibly get with money.
Your art is the most sacred place you go to, your true country. Taking the person you love with you, and giving them a little house of their own in that country is unforgettable. Among artists, this is the highest form of devotion. Art never dies. And by capturing the person you love inside that art, you offer them a piece of eternity, reflecting back at them, through your own eyes. You make them iconic and immortal by reminding them of their true infinite nature.

2. Craft something for them.

Build a gift with your hands. Not necessarily to represent them, but to use it in some way, even if just to decorate. This is different from turning them into the object of your art, or from getting them something they need. In this scenario, what matters is that you initiate the communication process — you are the maestro.
Whatever use they end up giving to your craft, the point is that it came from your own hands and it was exclusively designed and created for them by you. It has your fingerprints all over it.

3. Make it more complicated.

Simple is fine for everyday efficiency, but only as long as it’s seduced by the extraordinary. You can’t have one without the other. So orchestrate an event, a surprise, a chain message to deliver your love, something out of the ordinary, at least once a week, or every full moon, or whenever it’s been too long since your last trip to Wonderland.
Par Example:
– Deliver your message by bits and pieces. Let your loved one connect the dots. Have a few different people call the person you love and each of them share one part of your message. You can also do this via email. Just make sure each sentence or word is delivered in the right order and at the right time.
– Create a treasure hunt around the office or the house. The “treasure” can be a “shared coupon” for a wild night, a home cooked dinner, an epic hike, a dance, a camping getaway, the movie you never have time to watch together on the couch with homemade popcorn, a long bath, a massage… or any other you & me activity.
– Act it out. Role playing and storytelling — that is, making up fun stories and acting in them, in public or in private — allows for a deeper interaction to take place, an intimacy that may be limited by your “real” assimilated roles. Role playing also helps you give up your attachment to a certain idea of how things and people ought to be — by freeing you both from the fixed roles you may have each subconsciously adopted.
The point of these “complications” is to restore play. Since it is play that sustains and inspires work. Play is in a long term relationship with imagination. It conspires with the universe by letting in new possibilities — because, after all it’s just play, what can you lose? Work will later make sure to complete what Play has already set in motion. You need to be a child first.
Tom Robbins said it best:
Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature. (Still Life with Woodpecker)

4. Cook for them.

You may not realize how much this means and how deep it goes. Food is the most direct, profound, and intimate conversation we have with our own body. We ingest nutrients that literally become a part of us. Nothing requires more trust than the act of eating.
Trusting something enough to swallow it, is the greatest act of self-surrender. Our outside is designed to protect us: our skin is the largest organ in our body and a true warrior; our senses are always alert, and our entire outer self has one eye open all the time. Yet, the inside is so fragile and vulnerable that the smallest unidentified object you let in, can turn your gut world upside down. Your inside trusts that your outside will make the right choices and protect it.
So if eating is the most intimate, vulnerable and trusting act of the body, so is receiving that piece of food from the person you love.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to cook. Any human being can learn the most simple recipe online — and even if it tastes like crap, what matters here is the exchange of aliveness and vulnerability between two subjects. It matters that you tried and somehow, magically, this simple act of trusting and being trusted, often turns your crap into gold. Not always though, so make some salad first, it can’t go wrong.

5. Drop everything and spend quality time with them, ASAP.

With or without a treasure hunt. Make it a priority to give the person or people you love your full presence and undivided attention for at least an hour every day. You think it’s easy? Unless you’re high on dopamine (a feel-good addictive substance released by the brain especially in the early stages of being in love), spending quality time with the person you love is one of the most challenging aspects of a relationship, especially if you’re like the 99% of humans: BUSY. It almost makes you wonder why you are in a relationship to begin with.
Maybe it’s because in addition to being hard it’s also one of the few phenomenons you deem life changing and worth fighting for. As one of my favorite humans who ever wrote on Earth, Rainer Maria Rilke put it,
For one human being to love another: that is perhaps the most difficult of all our tasks, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all other work is but preparation.

So what do women want? What do men want?

It’s simple, they want YOU.

Just you, without life-sucking intermediaries. And your ultimate question, when trying to figure out How to Love Him / Her / Them should be, How can I offer them My Truest Self and How can I receive their Truest Self in return, so that we can enjoy each other? It’s that simple. And that hard.
Love is the most ancient, sacred and sublime communication process. It begins with a subject, it delivers a message that passes through a medium and it is then received by another subject. So the purpose of love is not the medium through which it passes, and ultimately, not even the message.
It’s the subjects that are sending and receiving the message, who create the love. And all they want deep down is to enjoy each other. Everything else is secondary, as long as the two (or more) subjects are communicating.

Hope this helps in some way.

Love Always,
Seema Sammy.

Dear Girls,
Let me officially wish you all a Happy New Years. I apologize for going incognito, again. I
just can't seem to work out a schedule and stick to it. I hate posting blogs scattered all over the place like this. I will keep working on that.

Anyways, these are some of the rules I've learned to live by. They've helped me come to terms with and accept myself as I continue to grow individually and I thought I'd share them with you guys.

Rules
1. Apologize when you hurt someone. Don’t apologize for laughing too long, or singing too loud, or missing a dance step. Never feel bad for trying your best and having a good time.
2. Your feelings are real. Even if you can’t understand the cause or if it doesn’t seem important enough, they’re still valid.
3. You’re human. You will make mistakes and you will have flaws. Be the best you can be, but you won’t be perfect, nor should you be.
4. No one’s dreams are more worthwhile than anyone else’s. Pursue what you love, even if others think it’s stupid.
5. There’s no shame in liking something. Or someone. There’s nothing wrong with crushing on someone because they’re hot, or loving a cheesy and predictable movie, or waiting in line for hours to buy the newest hot item. Don’t hide your interests or affections.
6. It’s not “just” for fun. Fun is as legitimate a cause as any.
7. It’s hard, but don’t beat yourself up about the past. There’s nothing you can do to change it, and it doesn’t have to define what you do in the future.
8. Don’t try to force yourself to stop caring about something before you’re ready. It doesn’t work and only creates anxiety.
9. Don’t hold yourself back to fit in. Find people who will love you for all of you.
10. Carpe diem.

Have a wonderful day my loves.

You Are Beautiful

 Dear Girls,

To be honest, the thing that infuriates me the most on a daily basis is when I see women making nasty comments about other women’s bodies on social media.
It’s bad enough when it comes from men but I can’t handle it when it comes from women. Every woman knows what it’s like to feel uncomfortable in their own skin or feel out of place or to not think very highly of themselves. So why on earth would you want to drag your sister, who’s in the same position you know all too well, down even further? It’s disgusting. Never feel the need to make disrespectful remarks about your sisters.  They are beautiful. You are beautiful.

Have a blessed day my loves.

Love Always,
Seema Sammy.

Stop Being Cruel To Kids

Dear Girls,

It’s a shame how hard society is on children and teenagers who are the most fragile and susceptible to developing body image issues and mental disorders. Upon seeing a picture of myself at 16 today, I realized just how average and thin (compared to now) I was.

Now I was never skinny, but I was very, very average. Yet people, adults and peers alike, were good at reminding me that I was not skinny. I was constantly reminded that I was on the larger side, constantly told how “worried” they were about me, constantly being put down and called cruel things by some classmates, and even sometimes by family.

I see pictures of myself from back then and god do I wish that I had the body positivity that I have now. I’m twice the size I was then and I’m happier with myself than I ever dreamed I could be.
And in being happier, I’m making healthier choices in order to better myself, instead of punishing myself. There was never anything wrong with me, but I was told so often that I was unhealthy and unappealing that I was never happy.

Why on earth would people be so cruel to kids? Please reinforce to your (current and/or future) children that they are beautiful. That there is never anything wrong with them or with nourishing their body. Teach them to be kind to others. Teach them healthy habits - mental health included - and do not raise them to believe that they are worth anything less than the entire world.

Have a fantastic Saturday my loves.

Love Always,
Seema Sammy.

It's a Journey

Dear Girls,

I suffered with the ins and outs of eating disorder for a long time. I have my down days, but I'm definitely much more body positive than I use to be.
I think that loving yourself is one of the most radical things you can do in a world constantly telling you it's wrong to do so. You don't need to be corrected. You don't need to think you're amazing all the time either. It's a journey and that's what is beautiful.
At least, that's what's been beautiful for me. I still get anxious or sad; but I'm always me and I'm pretty happy with that. I'm more than a number on a scale or how little tape I can wrap around my waist.

Have a wonderful my loves.

Love Always,
Seema Sammy.

Self Awareness

Dear Girls,

                                       To Whom It May Concern

You don't know me and I don't know you. You have no right to judge me and neither do I.
I could do without your stares and giggles or your rude comments about me being a 'Fatass'.

I don't need your validation, opinions and definitely not your close minded remarks.
I am self aware, in fact I know that I'm fat. I can see when I walk how my legs jiggle or that I have a double-chin.

So I urge you to be so self aware that you don't have to point and stare at me, that you can love your own reflection and not make me the subject of your attention.

Have a wonderful day my loves.

Love Always,
Seema Sammy

You Deserve This

 Dear Girls,

Every woman deserves a man who is proudly willing to proclaim to the world, "Yeah, she's my one and only. She's beautiful and she's mine."

If you're going through a breakup and you think he's the one, he's not. He's just a lesson learned. A heartbreak is a blessing from God. It's just his way of letting you realize he saved you from the wrong one.

You will meet someone incredible for your life; just have patience and never settle for less because you deserve the best.

God knows your heart's desire and if your heart desire is to get married,
He will provide you that mate. However do be mindful, He will provide you your future husband,
only when the time is right.

Have a blessed day my loves.

Love Always,
Seema Sammy.

Accept Yourself

Dear Girls,

Stop trying to please everyone except yourself.

AlI that's on my mind is how much I’ve let myself down trying to lift everyone else up. I’ve made this mistake so many times before, but lately it hurts my heart more than usual. I’ve realized just how harmful being too selfless can be.
I love helping others. I lend my ear to sad souls who just want to be heard, or at least they paint a picture as such. I lend my heart to empty people that can never seem to reciprocate my love for them. You’d think after years of constant disappointment I'd learn, I don’t. I learn but I never listen.
I guess what I’m saying is, stop trying to please everyone except yourself, ACCEPT YOURSELF, learn to value your own heart and let God help you help yourself. It’s okay to be selfish, I have to constantly remind myself…. ITS OK TO BE SELFISH.
Love always,
Seema Sammy.

You Are Worthy!

Dear Girls,

You are worthy and amazing right now. You just need to remember who you are, and let go of all the false beliefs you've taken on. Mary Oliver says it better that I ever could...

"You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air
are heading home agaian.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination.
calls you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting-
over and over announcing your place in the family of things."
-Mary Oliver.

Have a wonderful day my loves.

Love Always,
Seema Sammy.

Peace Over Understanding

Dear Girls,

Sometimes we have to choose peace over understanding.

This morning I found myself realizing that sometimes people are just plain nuts. Trying to figure them out, understand or even communicate with them is sometimes...futile.
Rather that engaging and trading energy, there are times when shaking my head, keeping my mouth shut and not engaging is truly the most loving, compassionate thing I can do for everyone.

Sigh.

Peace is the better choice for ourselves and the world. We do not have to try and make sense of everything. There will be days when the smartest decision for all is to shake your head and walk away.

Have a wonderful day my loves.

Love Always,
Seema Sammy.
